Project: "Embracing the Maipo Hills" (Free topic 2)

The hills Chena and Lonquén are two hills located south of Santiago, in the commune of San Bernardo, surrounded by agricultural and grazing activity, so they are under great pressure from anthropogenic activities. This has been degrading the natural and necessary conditions for harboring the ecosystem's wildlife. The sites of interest are considered as biodiversity hotspots at the international, due to the high degree of endemism and its various threats.

This is why my colleagues and I decided to do something. So we applied for the "Premio Azul" fund. We set up a project called "Embracing the Maipo Hills" (Abrazando los Cerros del Maipo) and send it to the competition. The project consists of promoting the ecological restoration of the degraded sectors of the hills, through the establishment of a plants nursery of native plants that inhabit both hills, which are destined to be planted in the reforestation areas. Also, the project includes pedagogical visits, environmental education activities to generate awareness of the importance of conserving the hills, the possibility of carrying out laboratory tests and plant propagation in an asexual way and many other things that will contribute a lot of knowledge to the campus community and to the people!

So, guess what!...

We won It!

Imagine how excited we are! We hope to begin working in January, we have a lot of work to do! Like collecting the seeds to propagate them and build the plant nursery!

Wish us luck!

Here a let you some pictures that I took last week!

Leave in the comments if you could identify any species! My favorite is the one with the blue flower
